About the Author/ Our Story

Aleithia Artemis grew up competing in obedience trials with the collies she and her parents raised.   She went on to study a pre-vet-med curriculum at Plattsburgh State University in New York, and pursued a double major in biochemistry and biophysics at the University of Houston Central Campus.

Since those college years, she put her knowledge of obedience training to work, teaching it at the University of Houston and at St. Thomas University through their on campus continuing education programs.

In 1982 she founded and began serving as Training Director for the All Breed Obedience (Top Notch Training) Training Center in Houston, Texas.   Over this extraordinary time frame, she has worked one-on-one with thousands and thousands of dogs of hundreds and hundreds of breeds.  Thus she is superlatively experienced with an extensive range and variety of breeds of dogs, and can help you with any breed of dog you have.

More impressively, her experience includes working with owners one-on-one, and also in group settings, helping dog lovers to train their own dogs.   This means even vaster experience:   Both in working with the human component, matching it with the dog, and also in exposure to behavioral influences with yet even more dogs and even other pets as well.

Further, she has orchestrated the training of even more dogs yet, via overseeing group classes taught by the other instructors at the Top Notch Training Center.  Her influence on countless dogs has resulted in happy owners and wonderful pets throughout these decades.

Above and beyond all this, she has not forgotten the non-profit charity sector either:  She is the Founder and Past President of Greyhound Pets of America, the by now well known racing dog rescue league.

She has an impressive amount of experience with all breeds, including animals of widely varying temperaments.   And because over the years she has attended conferences too numerous to count on the subject of animal behavior, she is familiar with a vast array of training and behavioral approaches being commonly used today.

In fact, the one-size-fits-all approach used by some training and behavior experts is at the polar opposite end to her approach. This means her dog training and behavior manuals allow the leeway necessary for you to succeed with your particular dog.  Her personal philosophy emphasizes gentleness and fairness in communicating with your pet.  She believes in going with the flow of your pet’s natural instincts, rather than straining against that flow.  This is showcased in the many “harnessing your dog’s natural tendencies”  type inclusions in her manuals.

Our Training School began with simple Group Classes in which dog lovers could show up once a week to learn how to teach their pets various exercises. As the classes grew, so did the complexity involved. We began to branch out and offer house calls in addition to the classes. We added an on-site Training kennel in which pet owners could drop their pets off, and pick up a newly well-behaved best friend for life.

Many of the Training requests presented in this array of programs began to have a similarity to them. That is why the author, Aleithia Artemis, put together these Manuals.  They address the top areas of interest shared by many dog lovers the world over.

You will enjoy her simple approaches that solve complicated problems - regardless of breed.
